Wildcare Inc

I have a deep and long lasting interest in the care of injured and orphaned animals, particularly local Darwin critters. I have been a wild life carer for around eight years, and during that time my husband and I have reared 35 possums, bandicoots and birds.

These animals are essentially important to me, because most people think little of native wild life, yet they play an increasingly important role in the environment. Living happily beside people and urbanisation, we live with them in suburbia – yet they belong here just as much as people do.

As a member of Wildcare Inc, a non profit organisation made up of volunteers who rescuse and care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, I have a great interest in the wellbeing of our native animals.

The Northern Territory is fortunate to have an abundance of native birds, mammals and reptiles.  The challenge is learning to live side by side with the wildlife in our own backyards, neighbourhood and rural properties.

My role as a carer of wildlife is really rehabilitation, to assist these gorgeous creatures with their recovery and get them back into their habitats as soon as possible.

My husband and I have been very honoured to have been involved in the rehabilitation of approximately 35 Northern Brushtail Possums, several bandicoots and rescue dof numerous birds.

I have many photos of my fostered ‘family’, those native animals that I have the privilege of knowing for such a short time some of which ihave shared below.
